Sani Bello, the governor of Niger State,
Meanwhile, Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has expressed concern about the ongoing invasion and sacking of villagers from their ancestral homes in various parts of the state, which he claims has increased the number of Internally Displaced Persons in the state’s various camps. More displaced people from Chiro, Kuchi, and Guni have arrived at the IDP Camp in Gwada in the last three days.
Although sympathising with the displaced, the Governor stated that security measures were being stepped up in order to find a long-term solution to the bandit attacks.
“Government is not unconcerned about the difficult position you find yourself in, as we are making frantic efforts to intervene and ensure that your neighbourhoods are free of those criminal elements and secure for your return,” he said.
Governor Sani Bello admitted that the majority of the displaced people were farmers who wanted to return to their homes ahead of the upcoming rainy season.
