I married at the age of 18 because I was ready and already a millionaire – Omotola

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, a Nollywood actress, has disclosed that she married Captain Ekeinde at the age of 18 because she was financially secure enough to do so.

In a recent interview with BBC Yoruba, the mother of four shared her thoughts on marriage.

She clarified that any lady who is not financially secure should avoid marriage because she is preparing herself to be imprisoned in the union.

Omotola was asked if she would encourage any of her children to marry at the age of 18 like she did.

“I was of consent when I married, and most importantly, I was mature when I met my husband. I currently only have one child who is 18 years old, so the question is a little late. He is a child, and if he decides he wants to marry, I will not allow it because he does not have his own money right now.

In all one does, knowledge or common sense must be applied. People can’t assume that because I married at the age of 18, they can’t do it. The question is, “Are you prepared for marriage?” I was ready when I was that age. I’d been employed since I was 15 years old, and at the age of 18, I’d been a millionaire. That is a reality that many people are unaware of.

“I had my own cash. I wasn’t reliant on any guy. Furthermore, because my father died young, I was already responsible for my younger siblings. At the time, I was like their mother, so I was mature and financially prepared.

When a woman is not financially secure, she should not marry a man. If you do so, you will be sentenced to slavery or, better yet, prison. If any of my children say they are ready for marriage after considering all of these factors, we (parents) will meet the individual and, if we like them, we will give them our blessings.”
