Senator Theodore Orji, the immediate-past Governor of Abia State and the current Senator representing Abia Central District, has advised South East Governors to ignore the Estern Security Network, ESN, and instead concentrate on the Ebubeagu security outfit, which they recently declared.
Senator Orji, who provided the advice in an exclusive interview with our Correspondent, said that Igbo land is “in desperate need of security and protection,” and that any lawful steps that would help stem the rising tide of insecurity in the area should not be rejected.
” What I’m looking for is something that will protect our lives and property. Is the South East still safe? No, it does not.
” Every day, people are killed, and if you see anything that has arisen that is attempting to calm the situation, will you say no?
“Governors should leave ESN alone and deal with Ebubeagu.”
Senator Orji also noted that, contrary to popular belief, cooperation between the two security agencies might not be possible because their approaches to securing the South East differ.
” Based on all available data, ESN cannot collaborate with Ebubeagu. So, instead of stirring up trouble or triggering a crisis, governors should leave them alone, after all, they came before Ebubeagu.
” The boys in ESN are fully devoted to Nnamdi Kanu. Governors cannot issue orders to them. So, why not stop an unwanted crisis?”
However, the former governor, who expressed strong support for Ebubeagu, urged the governors to ensure that the outfit is “adequately funded.”
“I firmly support Ebubeagu, but governors must ensure that it is legalised and properly funded.” They should take it seriously, and anything that can help reduce vulnerability in the region should not be discarded.”
