On their way to a wedding ceremony, nine people were killed in an accident at Ekpon Junction on the Agbor-Ewohimi Road in Edo State’s Igueben Local Government Area on Saturday.
The deceased were on their way from Benin to Ewatto in Esan Southeast Local Government Area of Edo for the wedding of an unidentified friend/relative.
According to reports, the bus they were riding in collided with an articulated vehicle carrying cement bags on its way to the south-east.
The mishap was said to have killed nine of the ten occupants.
The bodies of the victims, who were mainly Ewatto natives, were later deposited at the morgue of an unidentified hospital in Edo.
The sole male survivor, a 15-year-old, was being treated at the health facility’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to the Country.
According to the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edo Command, Henry Benemesia, five people died on the spot, while others died on the way to the hospital.
