The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has debunked social media posts alleging a bandit assault at the University of Abuja.
The public should ignore the texts, according to the Command, since there is no record of such an event.
ASP Yusuf Mariam, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a tweet.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to debunk the viral message circulating on social media purporting that the ‘University of Abuja has been targeted by bandits,’” the statement read.
“As of 2200hrs Tuesday 27th April 2021, the Command wishes to state categorically *that there is no record of such incident, while members of the public are enjoined to ignore the post, which is not only mischievous but also intended to trigger tension between residents.
“In the meantime, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP. Bala Ciroma, has directed continuous patrols around schools.
“In light of the above, the Command advises citizens to remain calm, follow the law, and double-check any details they obtain to avoid causing panic among the general public.
“As a result, we wish to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the safeguarding of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory.”
