Barnabas Zayol, President of the Tiv Youth Organization in Nasarawa State, has expressed concern about the continuous influx of armed herdsmen into Tiv settlement areas in Nasarawa State.
He added that the Tiv farmers are under attack by armed herdsmen and are totally powerless, with the majority fleeing to Kadarko in Nasarawa State’s Keana Local Government Area, while others are going to Daudu in Benue State’s Guma Local Government Area.
Remember that many Tiv communities in Nasarawa State have been attacked by alleged Fulani herders, most notably on Saturday last week when gunmen massacred women and children in Doma Local Government Area and other Tiv settlements in the state.
Dooshima, Antsa, Dooka, Angwan Yara, Ikyayior, Targema, Tse Tor, Chia, Umurayi, Dooga, Gindan Rai, Ajikamaka and Ankoma, and Gidan Rai, Zayol, and Doka Atikpo are among the villages under attack.
Comrade Peter Ahemba, President of Tiv Development Association (TIDA), and Moses Utondu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Nasarawa State on Conflict Resolution, both raised the alarm. They urged Tiv farmers to remain calm, noting that Governor Abdullahi Sule is working hard to alleviate their plight.
“Last Saturday, alleged herdsmen assaulted some Tiv communities, killing 11 people in Ajimaka and other nearby villages,” Zayol said.
“We are now under siege, and our people are being slaughtered. This is why we are requesting that Nasarawa State and the Federal Government send security personnel to the affected areas.
