The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, charged the Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies on Friday to immediately invite the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to list politicians in the All Progressives Congress, APC, who are responsible for the country’s terrorism and banditry.
In a statement released by its spokesman, Kolas Ologbondiyan, the main opposition party said that “there is self-professed evidence that Senator Akpabio is privy to such terrorism-related details that he must be made to share with the DSS as well as other security agencies.”
“Our party’s stance is predicated on comments made by Senator Akpabio at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday that acts of terrorism in our country are ‘politically motivated’ and the work of infiltrators from neighbouring countries,” the statement read.
“It is instructive to state that Senator Akpabio’s disclosure offers further insight into the suspected association of APC leaders with terrorist elements, who allegedly infiltrated our nation after being imported as political mercenaries from neighbouring countries by the APC to assist it in unleashing violence to rig the 2019 general elections.
“The PDP wishes to remind Nigerians that the APC and its leaders have refused to account for these mercenaries and have remained silent.”
“Our party also recalls how, instead of going after the attackers, the APC government blamed the 43 rice farmers who were beheaded by terrorists in Borno state last year, accusing them of not obtaining permission before conducting legitimate business in their own country.
“Nigerians would also remember that some governors elected on the APC platform were seen having photo ops with gun-wielding robbers, in addition to their vehement opposition to the PDP’s call for the federal government to declare a national security emergency.
“The APC’s and its administration’s position has emboldened terrorists to intensify their actions to the point that our country now ranks third in the world terrorism index.
“Now that Senator Akpabio has demonstrated that he has some knowledge about the catalyst for intensified acts of terrorism in our country, our party urges the DSS and other security agencies to urgently summon him for questioning in order to expose the politicians who are behind our country’s ugly situation.”
