The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has revealed ongoing high-level investigations to uncover those behind the country’s growing wave of terrorism and other violent crimes, expressing hope that at the end of the investigation, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP will not be found to be funding destabilising elements ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The APC announced this on Sunday in Abuja in a statement released by Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary of its Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC.
The APC was reacting to a statement issued by the PDP following its national caucus over the weekend, which claimed that the country was rapidly devolving into chaos and that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had no solutions because it had been overwhelmed by the demands of governance.
It stated that it has taken notice of the PDP governors’ communique on recent security incidents in some parts of the country, and that the party and government certainly share the concerns of well-meaning Nigerians, including PDP governors.
President Buhari, according to the ruling party, will achieve simple and long-term solutions to insecurity.
“While high-level inquiries are underway to identify the sponsors and perpetrators of the security incidents, President Buhari has already issued marching orders to our security services to put a stop to the security incidents,” it said.
“We hope that the hearings do not uncover conspiracies by the opposition to weaken the government in order to advance their desperate 2023 ambitions.”
The APC, on the other hand, stated that no one should question the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s urgency or capacity to put an end to the recent security incidents.
“We encourage stakeholders, as well as all well-meaning Nigerians, to avoid politicising or simplifying the security situation. At a time like this, our loyalty to our country as decent people should take precedence over political party affiliation.
“As those who receive constant security briefings, PDP Governors should understand that divisive language just emboldens the offenders who commit these heinous actions. This is not the time to play to the gallery, but rather to sit down and work out true, long-term solutions. The latter is what the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is doing.
“We are assured, however, that our PDP governors, as well as all stakeholders, will cooperate and support ongoing efforts to quickly and permanently end the security incidents,” the APC added.
