Gunmen have abducted Lateefat Abimbola, Deputy Director of Information Communication Technology at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijebu-Ode, and Toyinbo Olayinka, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture in Abeokuta.
While Abimbola was abducted in Ijebu-Ode on Thursday, Olayinka – a 400-level student of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management – was kidnapped on Saturday from a farm in Abule-Itoko on the Abeokuta-Ibadan Road in Ogun State’s Odeda Local Government Area, Punch reports.
Olayinka, along with the owner of the private farm, Dominic, and a 17-year-old Togolese lady, were reportedly kidnapped.
According to reports, the abductors of the FUNAAB student and two others have contacted the farm manager’s wife, demanding a ransom of N50 million from each of the three.
According to a source familiar with the TASUED lecturer’s abduction, Abimbola was abducted last Thursday around 7 p.m. at a junction near her home in Ijebu-Ode.
According to the source, “we have not heard from the abductors.” They have made no attempt to contact the family. “
Confirming the incident on Sunday, Kola Adepoju, Head, Directorate of Public Relations, FUNAAB, said, “According to a friend of the abducted student and a nursing mother who witnessed his abduction, he was kidnapped by gunmen at a private farm in Abule Itoko, a village in Odeda Local Government, where he had been working and living for the past three years.”
“The University’s management has reported the abduction to the Ogun State Police Command headquarters in Eleweeran and is working diligently with the Command to ensure the kidnapped student’s safety and release.”
