Mr. Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, has stated that the state’s security agencies have not confirmed to the state government the kidnapping of scores on the Kaduna-Abuja road, as some quarters have reported.
The commissioner said in a statement issued late Friday that the security agencies manning the Kaduna-Abuja road had not confirmed the kidnapping of scores of citizens as reported by a social media enthusiast.
According to him, “the Kaduna State Government, which is well-known for publicising security developments, will undoubtedly make public feedback received by the military and police as soon as the agencies respond.”
He explained that at approximately 3:30pm, the Security Operations Room, a 24-hour hub, began receiving distress calls about a blockage on the Kaduna-Abuja Road near Kurmin Kare. Contact was immediately established with the Commanding Officer of Operation Thunder Strike (OPTS), a Defence Headquarters outfit, and Operation Puff Adder, a Nigeria Police unit, for immediate counter action.
“Troops and police officers moved quickly to the general area, observed motorists stranded in both lanes, and cleared the road. After clearing the accumulated traffic, the personnel observed one Honda car with registration number RBC 864BL being recovered with a broken rear windscreen and another vehicle being discovered empty with some luggage. According to preliminary findings, the occupant or occupants may have been missing.”
“Additionally, alongside the Honda vehicle, the following five citizens concealed in the forest reappeared with their driver, who confirmed they had escaped the commotion completely:
YOHANNA RIFKATU, UMAR RUKAYYA, HAUWA JIBRIN, JULIANA JOHN, and YAHAYA ALIYU
LAWAN ‘M’ BABANGIDA (DRIVER).”
“As of this moment (9:40pm), the status of the Honda’s occupant(s) is unknown, and the veracity of the report that scores were kidnapped is unknown. The public will be briefed immediately after the Kaduna State government receives operational feedback “‘He stated.
