There is confusion in the Ogriagbene community in Delta State’s Bomadi Local Government Area following the murder of Senator James Manager’s brother over a land dispute. Senator James Manager represents the Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
According to SaharaReporters, the brother, Seleoge Reuben, was assassinated on Friday while visiting their hometown’s Ijaw community to claim the contentious property.
SaharaReporters learned that following Reuben’s death, other youths and supporters of the Senator clashed, causing tension in the community.
According to a witness, there are fears of retaliation because the confusion has claimed additional lives in the community.
“Reuben, the assassin, is the immediate younger brother of James Manager, our Senator, who is eyeing a run for the Peoples Democratic Party governorship in 2023. This crisis is claiming additional lives as we speak.
“We heard reports of retaliation, with many people fleeing for their lives. The military and police are doing nothing to protect those of us who are caught up in the crisis as innocent bystanders.”
James, the PDP’s manager, has represented Delta South Senatorial District since 2003.
“It was a conflict between the Senator’s family and another family that felt oppressed by the Senator’s family’s wealth and political influence. This resulted in a brawl between the youths of both families, which culminated in his (Reuben’s) death on Friday.
“Unfortunately, both families involved in the land dispute are genetically related,” another source told SaharaReporters.
