Alh. Yahaya Abubakar, Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, has convened an emergency meeting of district and village heads in response to the kidnapping of five people by bandits in Batatti, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to reports, the bandits are currently seeking N50 million in ramsons in exchange for the five victims they are holding.
At 8 p.m. yesterday, the bandits stormed Batatti and abducted their victims, injuring numerous others.
The DAILY POST has learned that valuables, including laptops and cellphones, were snatched.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits operated out of one Kolade Olushola’s shop in Batatti and other businesses along the major Bida-Mokwa highway.
Among those injured was Zackaria, who was at the shop to purchase a recharge card.
The bandits arrived in Batati in a white Hilux vehicle and conducted congregational Ishai prayers with community members before shooting into the air, according to the account.
According to the account, bandits forced shop owners and petty business hawkers to abandon their wares and businesses for safety.
After wreaking havoc in Batati for several hours, they fled the area via Gbangbagi community to the forest of Fazhi and Kutigi, the headquarters of Lavun Local Government.
Attempts to confirm the incident with the State Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, SDP Wasiu Abiodun, proved fruitless.
